Opinion: Meet San Diego judicial candidate Brian Erickson

Erickson is a candidate for San Diego County Superior Court Judge, Office No. 41. For more information, visit brianerickson4judge.com.

I have had the privilege of serving the people of the state of California as a deputy district attorney and deputy city attorney for over 29 years. I currently prosecute cold homicide cases utilizing DNA and genetic genealogy techniques. I work every day in the San Diego County Superior Courts to seek justice for victims and their families.

I am dedicated to ensuring public safety, seeking truth and equal access to justice for all. As a prosecutor, I have devoted my career to protecting victims and safeguarding our community. As a judge, I will ensure public safety by being firm but fair and seeking just consequences for those who break the law.

My experience includes trying 110 jury trials in the Superior Court involving complex murder, cold case homicide, child abuse, sexual assault, sexually violent predator, domestic violence and gang cases. I was the head deputy of the San Diego City attorney’s Office Child Abuse and Domestic Violence Unit where I supervised a team of over 20 attorneys, victim advocates, investigators and other staff from 1998 to 2004. I am a respected statewide and national instructor for prosecuting domestic violence, child abuse and strangulation cases.

As a deputy district attorney, I worked side-by-side with District attorney Summer Stephan to eradicate sexual assault and human trafficking, and that’s why she believes my “professional career and personal character” will make me an “outstanding Superior Court judge.”

As a trusted prosecutor, I enjoy widespread bipartisan endorsements from over 50 Judges, and an additional 90 Congress members, county supervisors, mayors, former U.S. district and city attorneys, criminal defense and civil attorneys, former deputy attorney generals and community leaders.

My bipartisan endorsers also include Stephan, Rep. Juan Vargas, San Diego County Supervisor Joel Anderson, the San Diego County Deputy District Attorneys Association, San Diego La Raza Lawyers Association, the Pan Asian Lawyers San Diego, the Latino American Political Association of San Diego and Crime Victims United, showcasing my broad appeal and qualifications.

Additionally, I am “law enforcement’s choice,” having been endorsed by the San Diego Police Officers Association, the San Diego County Deputy Sheriffs’ Association and every single city’s police officer association in San Diego County.

In 1995, I received my Juris Doctor degree from California Western School of Law in San Diego, where I won the American Jurisprudence Award for Trial Advocacy. I graduated from the University of Texas in Arlington in 1988.

I am a former advisory board member for the San Diego County Domestic Violence Council, former board member for the San Diego County Deputy District Attorneys Association, and former board member and treasurer for San Diegans Against Crime.

I live with my wife and our three children (two away at college) in Rancho Peñasquitos, where I have enjoyed spending many evenings and weekends on the fields coaching countless RP Little League and PQ Soccer teams. I have also organized and participated with teams of Deputy District Attorneys (DA’s Against MS) riding in numerous National MS Society, Bike to End MS, 150-mile bike rides and Challenged Athletes Foundation of San Diego Triathlons to support and raise funds for these organizations.

I volunteer at “Serving Seniors” lunches at the Gary & Mary West Senior Center and assist in coaching the Mission Bay High School Mock Trial Team.

I have been a dedicated public servant for over 29 years striving to attain truth and justice and would like to continue to serve the public as a Superior Court judge. I believe that my extensive experience, commitment to community safety and bipartisan support make me the most qualified candidate.

Please vote for Brian Erickson for San Diego Superior Court Judge Office No. 41.
