Attorneys Launch Association To Support Criminal Lawyers

A group of attorneys recently launched a brand-new organization, the Queens County Criminal Bar Association (QCCBA), to support lawyers who practice criminal law in Queens County with building their networks, connecting them with continuing legal education opportunities, and informing them about changes in the criminal law and the judicial system which might impact how they practice law.

QCCBA’s founding members were motivated to create an organization where attorneys who practice criminal law could collaborate and share ideas to enhance the administration of justice in Queens County, as their work has profound moral and societal impacts.

The inaugural QCCBA event was held at Austin’s Ale House in Kew Gardens, and the organization welcomed more than 160 interested judges and attorneys in both public and private practice. If an attorney would like to join the QCCBA, they should email qccbainfo@gmail.com.

The organization was founded by twelve attorneys who practice criminal law in Queens as well as one judicial advisor. To develop the framework for the QCCBA, the founding members modeled the structure and mission of the organization after the Kings County Criminal Bar Association (KCCBA), a successful networking and advocacy not-for-profit operating in Brooklyn. The QCCBA is grateful to the KCCBA for their advice, insight, and support.

Richard Sikes, QCCBA founding member, said, “The Queens County Criminal Bar Association will foster communication within the criminal bar in Queens County and build mutual respect among its members. That enhanced communication should ensure the just resolution of the many cases which our members handle every day.”

Seth Koslow, QCCBA founding member, added, “As criminal lawyers, we have tremendous responsibilities and must work together to achieve justice. The QCCBA will help attorneys build their own networks and at the same time strengthen our justice system.”

The founding members of the Queens County Criminal Bar Association are:

Scott Bookstein, Esq. (Private attorney)

Jeffrey Cohen, Esq. (Private attorney)

Uchenna Emeagwali, Esq. (Legal Aid Society)

Felipe Garcia, Esq. (Legal Aid Society)
