An Orange County man who worked as a nanny for multiple families throughout southern California has been sentenced to over 700 years in prison for sexually assaulting over a dozen boys. He was sentenced this past Friday, November 17.
In a press release, the Orange County District attorney’s Office announced that 34-year-old Matthew Antonio Zakrzewksi had been sentenced to 705 years to life, plus two years and eight months, for sexually assaulting 16 boys under his care. He was also accused of showing a 17th boy child pornography with the ultimate intent of assaulting him, and reportedly filmed many of the assaults he did commit.
Zakrzewski’s victims ranged in age from two years to 12 years, and the crimes were committed between January 2014 and May 2019, the District attorney’s Office said.
Zakrzewski was arrested on May 19, 2019. Earlier that month, a couple in Laguna Beach had reported him to police for allegedly touching their eight-year-old child inappropriately. The couple were concerned not only for the safety of their child, but for other children as well. Zakrzewski was initially charged with five felony counts: three counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under the age of 14, one count of oral copulation of a child under the age of 10, and one count of possession of child pornography.
Following Zakrzewski’s arrest, investigators called on the public for help identifying other possible victims.
As the investigation progressed, more victims were identified. By the time the case went to trial, Zakrzewski faced a total of 34 felony counts: 27 counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a minor under the age of 14, two felony counts of oral copulation of a child under the age of 10, one felony count of possession of child pornography, one count of using a minor for sex acts, two counts of distributing pornography to a minor for the purpose of engaging in sexual conduct, and one count of an attempted lewd and lascivious act with a minor under the age of 14.
He was convicted on all 34 counts.
Zakrzewski, who billed himself as a “manny” and “the original Sitter Buddy” on his website, reportedly gave this statement in court: “I prided myself on bringing smiles to your children and all the good times we shared were 100 percent genuine.” Several parents reportedly covered their ears and wept as Zakrzewski spoke. He did not apologize for his crimes.
The case was prosecuted by Senior Deputy District attorney Juliet Oliver of the office’s Sexual Assault Unit, the District attorney’s Office said.
