A teenage girl was kidnapped in Southern California on Saturday by a 42-year-old man who managed to drive 70 miles west before being apprehended by police.
Chance Willis now sits in jail on $250,000 bail, charged with one count of kidnapping. Detectives note they are still investigating the kidnapping, and that additional charges could follow depending on what they learn.
Saturday’s kidnapping was first reported at 7:16 a.m. Deputies from the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station learned the victim had been seen getting into a car in Moreno Valley.
“The investigation revealed a teenage girl had met an adult male near the location who coerced her to travel to the city of Gardena against her will,” reads a statement from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office.
Police tracked the victim to Gardena and local authorities were notified.
“Officers from the Gardena Police Department responded to the location and rescued the victim,” the statement continues. “Officers were also able to locate and detain the suspect, identified as Chance Willis.”
Willis has an address in Gardena.
Willis has yet to enter a plea to the kidnapping charge he faces. Information on his attorney, if he has one, was unavailable.
