Cleveland civil rights attorney James Hardiman is the speaker for the Lorain Chapter of the NAACP‘s  63rd annual Freedom Fund Banquet, according to a news release.

The social hour starts at 4 p.m. and the banquet begins at 5:15., Sept. 16, at Rosebud, 4505 Oberlin Ave., the release said.

The cost is $40 for adults and $10 for youth ages 12 and younger.

Hardiman has served as the president of the Cleveland Branch of the NAACP on four separate occasions, and as chairman for Citizens for Safe, Fair, and Just Cleveland.

Hardiman has an extensive career history, including working at Legal Aid Society of Cleveland, office of the Cleveland police prosecutor, national NAACP as special counsel, managing partner of Hardiman, Buchanan, Howland & Trivers, adjunct professor of political science at Baldwin-Wallace University and legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio, the release said.

He has lectured on constitutional law and civil rights at colleges and universities, according to the release.

Hardiman has worked on numerous class action desegregation and employment cases, the release said.

Hardiman also is an author of “Boycotts, Busing and Beyond” published 2017.

He has received awards from Cleveland State University School of Law Hall of Fame and John Hay High School Hall of Fame, the release said.
